Button Inspired Mobile Phone Covers. A Personal Note: Winter in Northwestern Pennsylvania.

As can be expected after a couple dozen pair, I got bored with crocheting baby booties and turned my hand to other projects.

One current project is cell phone covers inspired by my button jar. I LOVE collecting buttons and these are a few from the button stash.

The mobile phone cover pattern is from Lily® Sugar’n Cream® and is very simple. As usual, changing the size of the hook or yarn or tension will change the size of the finished product.

These are a few completed covers made with Lily® Sugar’n Cream®.

One cover will be given away on the Petunia Magpie Facebook page tomorrow. YES! FREE!!!

The remainder will be posted in the Etsy shop for those in the market for a nice, handmade phone cover.

On a more personal note....

Folks in these parts have had a hard time of it lately due to continuous, record-breaking cold weather. Most recently a twenty-four inch water-main developed a crack which in turn released a million-or-so gallons of water into the ground. A state of emergency was declared and residents were asked to restrict water usage to only those actions necessary for survival [i'm pretending it's a camping expedition].

Many area schools and businesses have been closed for the past week, but will re-open Monday.

Sad to see local merchants more concerned with their bottom line than the well being of consumers. Many have been accused of price-gouging as consumers watch the price of bottled water triple overnight. Pleased that other local businesses are stepping up and giving away bottled water to those in need. Regional businesses (like the "Y") have offered no-charge for the use of their facilities.

Karma.

The hardest impact will be the necessity of boiling water for the next few weeks until all the bacteria has been cleared from the pipes.

We have not gone unscathed here on the home-front. A valve to one of the outside spigots froze and broke last week. Luckily it was discovered quickly and the plumber had a cancellation and therefore able to make the repair in the early afternoon hours on the day of the incident. What a chore to dig down through two feet of snow simply to reach the access panel for the shut-off valve when outside temperatures are in the negative (-17 with a wind chill of -35 degrees Fahrenheit) making breathing difficult.

The good news is SPRING is right around the corner!

Y'all have a great Saturday!
